The Worship Life of a Leader

Acts 3:9-10. And all the people saw him walking and praising God.

Our Insignia events generally do not include a time of worship and praise. As the leader, I absolutely love being in the house of the Lord (or the home of my family!) for a warm and robust time of worship. Perhaps someday we will figure out how to do that in our ministry context, but in the meantime, I encourage you as leaders to reflect a bit on your own life of worship and praise to our Lord.

Anyone who has been a Christian for awhile—unless you don’t attend church, never watch a TV preacher and never read anything—has certainly heard the challenge to be “witnesses” for God. Many of us have endeavored to work, pray, give, play and in every way live our lives in a manner worthy of the name of Jesus.

It’s good to ask, though, whether people see us not only walking with Him, but praising Him. In Acts 3, there was a man who had received the gift of his legs and ankles in working condition! He had begun to walk and even leap! As he did, all of the people could see it. But also, there was no mistake as to where the blessings were coming from. There was no mistake where his healing came from.

He made sure of that through his praise.

How often do people notice us giving praise to our God? It may be a stretch to say we should be “leaping” into work or “dancing” into the grocery store. But it shouldn’t be a stretch to think that we could be walking around with joy enough to do so. If we’re spending time with God, being reminded of the greatness of His word and the graciousness of His Spirit, then we’ll be feeling His love and some of it is going to leak out into our lives and relationships, starting with the very expressions on our faces and words of our lips.

Whether through song, or words, or art, or blogs, or conversational opportunities, or just through our everyday way of carrying ourselves joyfully and speaking when we have the chance, may we find ways to not only live out the teachings and miracles God has done in our own lives, but may we also find ways to give Him praise. In a world of negativity and neutrality, the praises of God’s people will speak loudly…even if we don’t have to.

A Prayer for Leaders: “Oh Gracious Lord, thank You for Your provision that You provide in so many ways, in my life and in the life of our ministries. May you continue to bring more through Your people, and may we all give You the glory and the praise, which You so obviously deserve! Amen.”
